  • Creating a concise document that addresses the complexities of managing a wild and scenic river adjacent to the urban populations associated with the City of Orlando.
  • Incorporating the priorities and opinions of more than a dozen partner agencies which collaborate to form the advisory management committee.
  • Compiling decades of scientific research, technical bulletins, management plans and ecological survey data to form a historical context for the Comprehensive River Management Plan.

Accomplishments:

  • Created a concise document, and a separate Executive Summary that highlights the current “state of the river” and identifies key management actions to sustain or improve environmental conditions and the recreation experience.
  • Facilitated the input of partner agencies to ensure their priorities were consistent with objectives in the management plan.
  • Created a GIS-based StoryMap that gives a virtual tour of the Wekiva River System. Tour the StoryMap.
